MOTIV 8
This young persons' project is being led by Dawlish Action for Youth in association with the Devon Youth Service and youth project in Starcross and Exminster. The aim is to provide a mentoring service for young people who have problems that they can help sort out thus preventing the young person requiring formal referral to, or intervention by, the statutory organisations. The project is to be launched in December 2006. DAWLISH SKILLS AND ECONOMY
A two year project run by the newly formed Dawlish Community Trust that will help deliver projects that support SMEs Community training and tourism development initiatives. The project follows on from the MCTI process and successful Across the Coast Partnership. COMMUNITY ADVOCATE
A project run by Age Concern Devon which aims to help older excluded people with problems that fall outside of the services that other agencies offer. It is also envisaged that the project will encourage volunteers to take on the role of advocates. CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART AND THE NATURAL WORLD
TRRP is supporting the establishment of CCANW in Haldon Forest Park in 2006. The LEADER+ grant has partly supported the conversion of a building into an indoor art space. The larger part of the LEADER+ grant has been used to pilot first year educational and awareness raising activities. CCANW opened this first stage project at the same time as the Forestry commission completed the visitor access plan for the forest and re-launched it as a forest park . WOMEN IN BUSINESS
The project aims to help those women who have just started or are thinking of starting a business. The scheme creates a network linked via intranet and offers specialist training support such as pitching their business ideas to a team of business angels. RURAL WOMEN'S NETWORK
LEADER+ is supporting the Community care trust to create several small groups of women's networks. The aim is to offer training and activities in order to build self esteem and skills with a view to greater job opportunities and independent living. CARERS' BENEFIT SERVICE
Based in Dawlish but covering the rural area the project helps carers and those with disabilities to access benefits and tax credits. Carers are often socially excluded due to their need to focus on the care needs. The project aims to improve household incomes BUCK THE TREND
Based in Buckfastleigh the project acts as a catalyst at the most local level to identify the skill needs of local people and match local people to the skill needs of local employers. MARKET MAKERS
Market Makers, known as M 2, aims to create opportunity, provide support and expertise for small, innovative businesses that they would not normally receive so early in their growth. M 2 is targeted mainly at the craft sector and includes over 18 workshops plus 1:1 advice that equips businesses with the skills to allow them to reach new and especially trade markets. Areas covered include practical specialist topics such as e-commerce and how to present a product to buyers and agents as well as softer skills e.g. confidence building. Besides helping to create markets outside of the area, participants benefit from an internet / intranet in order to develop ways for the businesses to work together. With the support of specialist advisors the participants themselves are developing a sustainable exit strategy which will allow them to continue to work together after the LEADER+ support has ended.
TOOLS FOR TOWNS
The project aims to take accessible ICT and internet into rural villages in Teignbridge by placing equipment in local shops, pubs, post offices etc. The aim is also to train a community volunteer in each site to help users access the PC. The project is having limited success due to the difficulty in finding suitable premises. SUPPORTIMNG DARTMOOR This was a one year pilot led by the Teignbridge CVS in association with the other CVS's that cover the Dartmoor area to provide some specific capacity building and funding support in the most rural parts of our area. Overall the demand was not as high as first thought but two funding events were well supported from both Dartmoor and surrounding areas. COMMUNITY DELEGATED FUND. Follow the link to our pages
HANDS ON REACHING OUT A young people's charity, Platform for Performance, based in Newton Abbot runs workshops and music sessions for people in the town that culminates in a show-piece event Air Fusion. Hands On Reaching Out aimed to do music, DJing and event management sessions in some of the rural youth clubs with a view to including rural young people more fully at Air Fusion and try to recruit young people to the Management Committee. The project was successful in 2005 but little activity in rural areas took place in 2006.
FINANCIAL FOCUS FOR SMALL BUSINESS (2005) The project took place in 2005 and was TRRPs first project that provided support for SMEs. Led by Enterprise South Devon the project provided an understanding of some of the financial issues that face those starting or in business. Besides workshops there was 1:1 support and on completion of the programme participating firms were provided with free accounting software, training and follow up.
MOORSKATING
After several years of active research, Moorskating, a local voluntary organisation, set up and led by young people, have been granted funding to commission a feasibility study to assess the needs and viability of an indoor youth activity centre, incorporating a skateboarding complex, for the young people of rural Teignbridge.
BOVEY TRACEY YOUTH ACTION
The project aims to establish a community wide stakeholder partnership, who through a co-ordinated approach will seek to address anti social issues in the town. The project will reopen the Youth Café for three sessions a week, develop outreach work and provide training sessions and additional opportunities for young people, such as outward bound physical activities.
MORETONHAMPSTEAD LEARNING CENTRE
Moretonhampstead Development Trust will deliver this three year project to create a community led IT Learning Centre to increase IT skills in the Moorland area of Teignbridge. The project will provide an IT Surgery, a two hour per week evening drop in service for people wishing to discuss their IT problems on a one to one basis, and a qualified tutor to deliver an agreed plan for the IT interest group of the East Dartmoor U3A, in addition to part funding the management support of IT courses delivered through the Centre.
DAWLISH COMMUNITY TRAINING PROGRAMME
Research has identified a need for training and skills development in the area, particularly for women who are from low income families, hinterland areas or who are single parents. This project will provide a community training co-ordinator for three years and a training support worker to work in partnership with local agencies to remove the barriers to training and development facing this group.
SMALL CHANGE IN DAWLISH
A three year pilot project to improve the quality of life of people in Dawlish. The project aims to support 150 volunteers to identify and address the issues affecting Dawlish residents. It will take a joined-up approach to the issues raised by providing practical support on areas such as energy and water efficiency, healthy eating (including the promotion of local foods and 'grow your own') and increasing the environmental and economic sustainability of homes and neighbourhoods. It is anticipated that at the end of the programme some beneficiaries will have sufficient training to continue to support the community.
VANLAND
A three year project for young people to be involved in the making and showing of their own video and audio shorts. The video pieces will be an opportunity for participants to express what they like and dislike and opportunities they lack as a result of living in rural, as opposed to, urban areas. Young people will have an opportunity to work with professional artists and the latest technology equipment. The completed pieces will tour the area in a mobile exhibition - hence the title Vanland.
CHUDLEIGH YOUTH
CENTRE
Demand for the Youth
Centre's services has expanded rapidly to 350 members and while trying
to provide a youth club and a pilot Youth Advice Service, the greatest
demand has to date concentrated on providing supervised attractive
activities for the under 13 year olds. Therefore, the project is
to fully develop and manage a Youth Advisory Centre aimed at
the 13+ age group focusing on the marginalised and socially excluded
and to build upon its success and provide finance for its management
which in return will facilitate growth in numbers.
HERE & NOW / IT EXPERIENCE
55+ Positive Lifestyle
began in 1996 and was established from an identified need to support
the health and well being of older people and increase their leisure
activities. IT Experience offers flexible multi-level tutoring to
small groups. Training will be taken out to rural areas using
village halls and small classes are tutored in a non-competitive
environment. Here and Now will initially offer two taster sessions
in a wide range of art and craft based activities. Following over
three years there will be 10 and then 15 craft workshops of a half
a day per week over 10 weeks. This will culminate with an exhibition
of the work.
THE ART FARM PROJECT
To provide a nine day
festival of art involving some 30 artists, including demonstrations,
workshops and linkages to agriculture.
The project includes:
- Preparation of the
site and insurance. This will include
clearing out and cleaning a range of barns and outbuildings and
temporary installation of lighting etc.
- Promotion.
- Installations and
events, including specific art works created to ‘respond’
to the location as demonstration projects which will not be sold, workshops and talks. The workshops will provide opportunities for artists
to teach skills and for visitors to try certain skills such as raku
fired ceramics, clay sculpture, landscape drawing and working
with willow. The talks will include two themed days with outside
speakers: Art and Agriculture and New Spaces for Art. The grant funding
will allow the project to have a distinctive edge which will
substantially enhance the artists' and visitors' experience and learning.
- An event to launch
the feature and generate extra publicity.
- Extra art installations.
- Evaluation and monitoring.

ACROSS THE COASTLINE
The project aims to empower
local communities to develop bottom up community
action plans covering the economic, social and cultural development
of their areas.
The activities are summarised
as follows:
- Create a new group
to focus on the community plan rather than being a fringe group.
- Empower local communities
to take ownership.
- Capacity building
to reinvigorate rural area.
- Develop rural community
plans.
- Action resulting
from these.
DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (SMALL GROUPS)
The project aims to support
small voluntary and community organisations in Teignbridge to
develop projects which address the aims and objectives of TRRP and
contribute to an enhanced quality of life.
The project will:
- Create the post of
Development Officer (Small groups).
- Support voluntary
and community groups, operating in the TRRP area, to develop their
capacity to create, finance and manage projects. It has been
shown that a lot of activity can take place at grass roots level,
provided that groups have access to the level of support they
require.
- Work one-to-one with
organisations throughout the process of developing an application
for LEADER+ funding.
- Particularly identify projects that address the needs of young
people, women, and older people in the TRRP area.
The project will fill
a gap where service provision is largely unfulfilled. Large organisations
have the ability, or professional bid writers, in their organisations
to help secure funders. Small organisations, where staff and committees
are voluntary, are time and ability challenged to make bids.

YOUNG PERSONS RURAL ACCESS PROJECT
The project aims to provide a joined up young persons rural access service targeted at young parents combining the services of the Citizens Advice Bureau and Dawlish Action for Youth.
The project will provide:
- A place where young parents can meet to share interests, skills and concerns.
- Specialist support, confidential advice, workshops on parenting skills, first aid, food hygiene and skills to find a job.
- The Citizens Advice Bureau will offer representation in dealing with statutory and voluntary organisations.
- Training will be given to capacity build so that young people and young parents will take a role in running some of the services.
BOVEY TRACEY ART AND CRAFT FAIR
The project aims to establish an annual craft festival in Bovey Tracey over two days in June. Craft exhibitions will be placed in the grounds of the two founder businesses with a complimentary bus service.
The project will also create a leaflet identifying all the craft businesses which accept visitors in and around Bovey Tracey. Educational opportunities will also be developed within the fair through demonstrations.
DEVELOPING SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
The project aims to foster social entrepreneurship as a means of regeneration and so enabling sustainable, enterprising solutions to address local needs.
The project will aim to recruit eight individuals through two seminars on 'Understanding Social Entrepreneurship'. The eight individuals will move onto the full course of five modules leading to OCN Accreditation over 12-16 months at levels 2 and 3.
TEIGNBRIDGE & SOUTH HAMS TRANSPORT PROJECT
The project will create a three year post for a Research and Development Officer to give a focused approach to identifying travel needs and the provision of rural transport in the areas of Teignbridge district and the eastern part of South Hams district.
The project will include access to acute health facilities, links with Social Services and preventative care possibilities (maintaining independent living through providing transport links to facilities such as health and leisure centres).
The project will also examine the implications of transport on employment and training opportunities for young people and will consider the impact of transport provision on tourism.
KINGSTEIGNTON YOUTH CENTRE
The project is to employ a full time youth worker to take over the existing youth work, develop additional areas and deliver the projects Development Plan. Included within the project, are costs for training existing and additional volunteers.
There are currently 500 young people, including 60 families, accessing the Youth Centre each week. The village of Kingsteignton has 3100 young people (0-25), which represents 14% of the TRRP young population.
The village has expanded, with the population doubling over the past sixteen years and a further 370 homes planned between 2001 and 2011. Therefore, in future years, there will be an increase in the demand for the Youth Centre and its activities.
THE BUNGALOW PROJECT
The project will support the whole Bungalow Youth Project, with the provision of one full time youth worker and two part time workers. The project will provide a drop in centre and will offer volunteers, workers and young people training and development opportunities in:
- Youth work
- Drugs and sexual health awareness
- First aid
- Health and safety
- IT
- and other specific training as required
The young people have been involved in the development of the project and will continue to be involved in both its management and day to day operations. A further benefit of the project is that volunteers and older young people will receive training in a range of skills which will help them run the project and work with the younger element.
Therefore the employment of a qualified youth worker will ensure good management of volunteers, provide professional development and help grow the service on offer.
DEVONPLAY ENVIRONMENTAL DEMONSTRATION PLAY SITE FEASIBILITY STUDY
The project will carry out a feasibility study, which will look into alternatives to expensive fixed play equipment and other aspects of play area planning and design.
The study will set out the options for creating a demonstration play site in Teignbridge. The site will show play providers, organisations and families a new approach to outdoor learning. It will demonstrate innovative landscape design, incorporating plants, the arts, traditional and modern building materials, natural features and a woodland area.

QUEST 4 SKILLS
The project aims to provide quality ICT facilities and training opportunities to meet the needs of local communities.
The project will increase access to ICT for women , young people and older people and tackle isolation experienced by the older people.
It also aims to raise skills and increase the employability of local people, while increasing the facilities and opportunities available to local voluntary and community groups.
EAST DARTMOOR VILLAGES YOUTH PROJECT
This project is to fund a youth club in the village of Moretonhampstead to open two evenings a week and in a cafe on one further evening, with one youth worker and occasional volunteer who will help the owner to run an internet and video cafe for young people. The cafe will serve drinks and some food at lower than normal prices. An information and advice service will be an important part of the project and all of the workers will be trained in these areas.
The project will seek to involve young people themselves in all aspects of the management of the project. Part of the project will be to provide a mini bus service. The service will cover the villages of Manaton, North Bovey and Lustleigh and the hamlet of Doccombe. It will use the existing community minibus, which is run by a local voluntary charity.
TEDBURN IT PROJECT
This project will offer a range of interactive sessions at three levels; Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced.
The courses will be run in the main during evenings and in term time. The project will cater for people with special needs. The courses will be run by teachers from the local school and members of the community with the necessary skills. The project will use the school's IT suite with the beneficiaries gaining from shared adult learning.
The project will cover topics such as:
- Use of spreadsheets
- Searching the internet
- Use of task bar and links
- E-mail applications, including attachments
- Organising filing systems
- Use of firewalls and anti-spam
